About Us

Terra Nova was founded by Tjaart van der Walt and Heinrich Hough, two passionate adventurers who share a love for the outdoors, exploration, and helping others discover the adventure that South Africa has to offer.

Tjaart has spent much of his life exploring South Africa through hiking, cycling, kayaking, and overland travel. As the owner of several adventure tourism businesses in and around Cape Town, he has dedicated his career to creating memorable outdoor experiences and introducing people to the beauty of nature through adventure.

Heinrich brings a lifelong passion for sport, coaching, and adventure. With a background in triathlon and adventure racing, he grew up immersed in endurance sports and the adventure racing community. Today, he runs his own coaching business, helping young athletes develop confidence, skills, and a love for an active lifestyle.

Beyond the racing and adventure, both Tjaart and Heinrich are passionate family men. It is this shared love for family that first drew them to adventure racing—a sport where parents, children, friends, and teammates can challenge themselves together, create lasting memories, and share unforgettable experiences in the outdoors.

Through Terra Nova, their goal is simple: to grow adventure racing in South Africa by creating accessible, welcoming events that inspire people of all ages to get outside, explore new places, and ultimately, find their way.
